Lake Nottely in Blue Ridge Georgia

Lake Nottely is nestled in the mountains and valleys of the Chattahoochee National Forest, covering 4,180 acres at full pool with 106 miles of shoreline. A TVA reservoir, Lake Nottely is located in Union County northwest of the town of Blairsville, Georgia. on the southeastern edge of the Tennessee River watershed. The small mountain lake has clear deep water and an abundant striper population. Hundreds of private residential home sites are located along the shoreline but the recreation area is open to the public and features a beach and camping area which is a great place for viewing wildlife.

Lake Nottely serves a number of purposes other than recreation, it is also used for power generation and flood control and is beneficial for water quality, aquatic ecology and helps maintain navigation depth on the TVA ferment dam system. The water level in Nottely Reservoir varies about 32 feet in a normal year.

The Chattahoochee National Forest, which borders a substantial portion of the lake, adds to the scenic quality of the area. Nottely is noted for its black and striped bass, walleye, rainbow trout, and bass which the state of Georgia has stocked to enhance fishing opportunities. Most stripers will weigh around 6-15lbs. The number of fish over 20lbs. are low but trophy-size specimens, including a few exceeding 40lbs continue to be caught.
