Blairsville Georgia offers a wealth of recreational pursuits, delightful attractions, and festivals held throughout the year. Union county is 204,736 acres, with 97,843 being a part of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The counties population is around 22,250 with 700 of those folks living in the town of Blairsville, Georgia. A hiker’s paradise, any adventurer will discover unlimited scenic beauty in the unspoiled Chattahoochee National Forest. Or try the lesser known trails of Duncan Ridge and the Benton MacKaye Trail. Several waterfalls are within a days hike including DeSoto Falls, Dukes Creek Falls, Horse Trough Falls and the twin cascades at Helton Creek Falls. In addition, you’ll find many opportunities for camping, hiking, picnicking, gold panning and fishing.

Outdoor Activities

For the water lovers, Union County offers many lakes. The largest being serene Lake Nottely at 4180 acres with a 106 miles of shoreline. There is also Lake Trahlyta the popular 280 acre lake in Vogel State Park.  Lake Trahlyta offers swimming fishing and paddle boating. Two smaller lakes are pristine Winfield Scott and Lake Woody near Suches.

Rather drive then hike? For the less adventurous,  there is the Richard Russell Scenic Highway. This 14 mile stretch of road crosses the Appalachian trail and offers scenic overlooks at elevations over 3600 feet. A must see during fall foliage.  Also check out  the Southern Highroads Trail, the North Georgia Farm Trail and Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest elevation just outside of Blairsville in Hiawassee Georgia Towns County.

Continuing Education Opportunities

North Georgia Technical College is  a 5.5 million dollar facility.  The school teaches everything from allied health to computer technologies to hotel/restaurant management. This 45,000 square foot structure offers state of the art classrooms , labs and meeting facilities. It  incorporates the latest technology in every program.  North Georgia Technical College is a residential, public, multi-campus institution of higher education. It’s serving the workforce development needs of Northeast Georgia. The college provides access to student-focused occupational programs.  Offering associate degrees, diplomas, and certificate levels; Adult Education; and customized business and industry training through traditional and online. Therefore the school allows for a flexible personal schedule.
